Tibetan Arms and Armor

The Tibetan Arms and Armor exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and it's pretty amazing.  It also has the added twist of dispelling the seeming paradox that arises when entering the exhibit.  Why would, what we have come to see as an intensely peaceful people, have need of weapons?  Throughout the exhibit this question is answered and we come to understand the history and tumultuous times of the Tibetan people on much more intimate level then ever before.   Check it out here.

There are plenty of surprises in store for visitors to our Archaeological Archive and Research Centre, one of the largest purely archaeological stores in Europe. Along the 10 km of shelves - which laid end to end would run from St Paul's to Marble Arch and back - you will find over 5,000 shoes, 3,000 pins, 500 needles and records concerning 8,500 excavations, the earliest dating back to 1830. The tours will be led by some of our volunteers - over 600 of whom have worked in the Archive at various times over the past ten years. Take the chance to chat to them, and to Museum staff, about their favourite finds. They might even let you touch a 600-year old shoe or a Roman wine jar!

There's an app for that...

Yes, we've all heard that phrase muttered to the point of death, but when you stop and think, there almost is.  Enter the British Library with their mobile offering.  Over 100 of the library’s most significant items including the world’s oldest bible Codex Sinaiticus, Galileo’s letters and Leonardo Da Vinci’s notebooks are now accessible for an iOS or Android device of your choosing.  Pretty neat.
